Committees and Task Forces

ISTSS has several committees that carry out a number of different functions for the association. Among them are the following committees. To learn more about them, click on the name of the committee below.

Social Network Administrator


The ISTSS Social Networking Administrator is responsible for the content, appearance, and maintenance of the following ISTSS Social Networking sites: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and potential future Social Networking sites. The Social Networking Administrator must also ensure that the sites adhere to ISTSS’s guidelines for Social Networking.  The Social Networking Administrator is the main contact for potential content providers and headquarters staff, specifically with regards to social network site content. The appointed term for this position is three years initially, and may be reappointed for not more than one further three-year period. Ideally, the first 1-2 months of a new Administrator’s term will overlap with the current editor for ease in transition. 

Requirements for the position include: expertise in the area of psychological sciences and traumatic stress, advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, MSW, MS, MA) in a trauma related field or comparable experience, expertise in social media outlets (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).

Requirements of the job include consistent and reliable oversight of ISTSS social networking pages (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and potential future Social Networking sites), familiarity with formatting of and changes to social networking sites, accessibility to board members, committee and task force chairs, headquarters staff and general membership. It is estimated that Social Networking Administrator activities will make variable time demands not normally exceeding two to three hours per week. This is a volunteer position, with an annual stipend that is determined by the Executive Committee.

More specifically, the Social Networking Administrator will:

  • Regularly post content to ISTSS Facebook and Twitter accounts, adhering to ISTSS Social Networking Guidelines, including but not limited to content leading up to and during the annual meeting, posting information regarding activities of ISTSS, and highlighting information regarding ISTSS educational offerings. 
  • Manage requests from third parties to post content to ISTSS social networking sites, adhering to the ISTSS Third Party Social Media Policy 
  • Review all content to be posted to the social networking sites, including ISTSS news, committee news, videos, and highlights from ISTSS publications.
  • Monitor user content on LinkedIn and delete inappropriate content.
  • Establish a liaison with Committee chairs, including but not limited to the Public Health and Policy Committee, the Public Information and Education Oversight Committee and Production Sub-Committee, the Annual Meeting Committee, publication editors, and SIG representatives and others who may contribute content to social networking sites.
  • Develop ideas jointly with other committees for novel uses of the social networks.
  • Work with the board and headquarters staff to coordinate policy and implementation relating to the social networking sites. 
  • Report on social network site performance to the board with a compilation of representative compliments, complaints, and (if applicable) controversial topics posted on ISTSS-related social media., 
  • Compose and post or publish updates at least semi-annually keeping the membership informed of ISTSS-related social media developments via StressPoints, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
