Home > Education & Research > Journal of Traumatic Stress > JTS Editor Search JTS Editor SearchThe International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies is seeking candidates for the position of editor-elect for the Journal of Traumatic Stress (JTS). JTS, a premier peer-reviewed scientific journal on traumatic stress, is published by Wiley and has an international circulation of over 5,000. The journal receives 350-450 new manuscripts per year, of which approximately 20% are accepted for publication. The editor-elect serves for one year prior to assuming full duties as editor for the subsequent five years. The newly appointed editor-elect will assume his or her position on January 1, 2021, with the term as editor expiring December 31, 2026. ISTSS provides an annual stipend of $25,000 USD for the editor, as well as funding for operation of a small editorial office that the editor directs. The editor/editor-elect position requires a substantial time commitment. Administrative responsibilities include receiving all manuscripts, assigning them to associate editors, monitoring recommendations from associate editors regarding disposition of manuscripts, transmitting accepted manuscripts to the publisher, and proofreading galleys. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and making editorial decisions about approximately one-fifth of submitted manuscripts. After an introductory year as editor-elect working with the previous editorial team, the incoming editor also is responsible for recruiting associate editors and editorial board members with whom they will work. Necessary characteristics include: Excellent written communication skills in the English language Strong organizational, administrative, and managerial skills Substantial research experience and expertise in scientific methodology as reflected by successful funding, conducting peer-reviewed grant projects, and authorship on numerous peer-reviewed publications Demonstrated expertise in traumatic stress. Extensive experience with peer review of scientific manuscripts as demonstrated by service as the editor or associate editor of a scientific journal, or by membership on editorial boards of multiple scientific journals Global perspective on publication and research Desirable characteristics include: Access to existing organizational resources Familiarity with new and evolving methods of publication such as open access or hybrid models of publication Experience with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work Knowledgeable about new media and ways in which this may be integrated in with traditional journal mechanisms.
