ISTSS Membership Now on Calendar Year Cycle
ISTSS membership now operates on a calendar year cycle, meaning all memberships run from January 1 to December 31, regardless of when you join. See below for updated FAQs and feel free to reach out if you have questions.
Q: What is a calendar year membership?
A: A calendar year membership runs from January 1 to December 31 of the current year. No matter when you join during the year, your membership will expire on December 31. For example, if you join on April 1, 2025, your membership will be active until December 31, 2025.
Q: Does it matter what day of the month I join?
A: Not anymore. All memberships, regardless of the date you join, will expire on December 31 of the same year. If you join later in the year, we encourage you to renew early for uninterrupted access to ISTSS benefits in the following year.
Q: What if I joined before ISTSS moved to the calendar year cycle?
A: If your membership was originally on the anniversary cycle, you will see a prorated invoice in your account for the first year to get your account to its new expiration date: December 31, and renewal notices will be sent accordingly.
Q: What if I renew my membership after it expires?

If you renew by January 31 of the following year, your membership will be backdated to January 1, ensuring no lapse in benefits.

If you renew after January 31, your membership will start from the date of renewal and will expire on December 31 of that same year.

During any lapse, your access to ISTSS member benefits (including the Journal of Traumatic Stress) will be temporarily suspended.
Q: When will I receive renewal notices?
A: Renewal notices are sent starting in October each year. You’ll receive reminder emails at regular intervals through December to ensure you don’t miss your opportunity to renew.
Q: How will the calendar year dues cycle affect my Journal of Traumatic Stress Studies (JTS) subscription?
A: Your JTS subscription will follow the same calendar year cycle as your membership. To ensure continuous access to issues of the Journal, renew your ISTSS membership by December 31.
