News of trauma across the globe is highly prevalent in today’s mainstream media, with an intense focus on the worldwide refugee crisis. The UN Refugee Agency estimates that, as of 2016, there are approximately 22.5 million refugees that have been forcibly displaced from their homes. While there is a great need for improved accessibility to mental health services for refugees seeking asylum, solely based on the traumas they experienced prior to the asylum-seeking process, there is a specific need for trauma-informed practices within the process of asylum-seeking.
