Paper In A Day (PIAD) & Late-Breaking Abstract Submissions

Paper in a Day Workshop - Wednesday, September 24, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Plus Pre- and Post-Meeting Assignments

Maximum: 8 Participants (each group)

This event is aimed at early career researchers defined as current doctoral students or researchers who have obtained their PhD less than 5 years ago. There is limited availability (4-8 participants for each project) and we aim for global representation. If selected, there is a USD $20 registration fee for this workshop. If you would like to participate, please apply here by July 15, 2024. For detailed information and the two projects available, please see the full description here.

Paper in a Day (PIAD) grew out of a desire to foster collaborations between young researchers from around the world. Many of these researchers will be future leaders in the domain of posttraumatic mental health and the field will benefit from their partnerships and teamwork. PIAD was designed by Eva Alisic to stimulate international connections and the exchange of ideas by working on a tangible outcome: A paper, short communication, or commentary for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. This will be an intensive, productive, and enjoyable day. The aim of the exercise, firstly, is to stimulate international collaboration and exchange among early career researchers, and, secondly, to develop a paper that will be submitted for publication. Previous workshops have led to journal articles, conference contributions, and lasting collaborations. Because PIAD will take place prior to the ISTSS annual meeting, participants will have the opportunity to continue developing relationships and ideas for further collaboration during the conference.

Late-Breaking Poster Abstracts | Opening Friday, July 12, 2024

Deadline: Wednesday, July 31, 2024

All too often, research isn't completed when ISTSS abstract submissions close. ISTSS is ‎excited to offer this ‎‎opportunity to submit a late-breaking poster submission for the 40th ‎Annual Meeting.

Only poster abstract submissions will be considered.

The ISTSS 40th Annual Meeting will focus on innovative strategies to apply basic science ‎knowledge to the assessment and treatment of traumatic stress, as well as on the translation of ‎scientific findings into actionable interventions for the global community. In pursuit of this goal, we ‎seek submissions specific to the field of traumatic stress on topics related—but not limited—to:‎

  • Application of biomedical science findings to inform assessments and interventions for ‎traumatic stress symptoms/disorders. ‎
  • Research investigating the psychological, biological, social and behavioral ‎mechanisms that underlie post-trauma mental health.‎
  • Research taking a life course perspective to address to address ‎the spectrum of ‎translational science research.‎
  • Evidence-based practices and innovative research in basic science, intervention ‎development and implementation, and policy. ‎
  • Innovative transdiagnostic treatment approaches addressing the myriad ‎consequences of trauma.‎
  • Cutting-edge research methodologies and statistical frameworks for translational ‎science research.‎
  • Ethical implications and considerations associated with the application of translational ‎science in traumatic stress studies.‎
  • Ways to effectively communicate and disseminate research to different stakeholders.‎
  • Ways to cultivate translational science and interdisciplinary exchange. ‎
  • Challenges and debates in the area of translational science.‎
  • Translational science as applicable to the global community.‎

Abstract submissions closed February 13, 2024, 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time

Participation Limit (Two Submissions Per Person)

To promote participation by a wide range of presenters, individuals are limited to two abstracts being submitted ‎that indicate they have a presenting role.

Who Should Submit the Abstract?

We strongly recommended that the individual who will be presenting in-person ‎be the one to submit your poster abstract. If someone else submits the abstract on behalf of the primary presenter, that ‎person will become the point-person and receive all follow-up emails that will need to be forwarded to the primary ‎presenter.

Other Policies to Note

  • Presentations should be original contributions and that any presentation concerning work that has been ‎presented elsewhere should provide new information or a new perspective relative to the previous ‎presentation(s).
  • Publication of the work, such as in a journal, prior to the date of abstract submission (not the abstract ‎submission deadline) is prohibited. ‎ ‎
  • Proposal descriptions must be sufficiently detailed to allow the relevance, originality and ‎feasibility to be ‎judged. For research presentation abstracts, submissions of findings are ‎strongly encouraged.‎
  • Incomplete proposals (draft status) will not be considered.
  • All live presentations may be recorded for asynchronous viewing.

‎Examples

Competition for oral presentations is high; therefore, we recommend taking the time to enter the best submission possible. Keep in ‎mind that many high quality proposals must be turned away simply due to lack of space. See examples of model ‎and problematic oral presentation proposals here.

‎‎Review Process

‎Submissions are rated for rigor (scientific, clinical or intellectual), relevance for ISTSS members and consistency ‎with the meeting theme. Proposal descriptions must be sufficiently detailed to allow evaluation of these criteria. ‎‎

‎‎CME Requirements

See an explanation of speaker requirements related to commercial ‎relationships.

‎‎COVID Protocol

‎ISTSS will require attendees at the 2024 annual meeting to follow all COVID-19 guidelines that are in place at the ‎time of the meeting from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local government, and ‎conference hotel, The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Los Angeles. ‎Individuals should contact the Executive Director to address specific circumstances or exceptional situations.‎
