Upcoming Conversation and Consultation Session:

Negotiation Skills and Strategies for Clinical and Academic Careers
Date: Tuesday, September 13, 2022
Time: 3:00 pm Eastern Time (USA)  Find your time zone here.

Most of us in mental health research and clinical careers have no formal training in negotiation yet find ourselves in professional situations where negotiation skills are critical. These situations can include negotiating job offers, promotions, project resources, or just daily workplace interactions. In this Conversations and Consultations meeting, we will discuss topics such as what is negotiable, preparing for negotiation, and strategies for successful negotiation. Come prepared with questions.

Sonya Norman, PhDSONYA NORMAN, PhD, director of the PTSD Consultation Program for the National Center for PTSD and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, is a clinical psychologist and a researcher in the treatment of PTSD and common co-occurring problems. She serves as a member of the VA/DoD PTSD Clinical Practice Guideline workgroup and as a board member for the International Society of Traumatic Stress. For the past decade, Dr. Norman has given lectures to clinicians, faculty, and trainees on negotiation skills in research and healthcare careers. She received her PhD from Stanford University.
